EL DIARIO CAMPAÑA LA CORUÑA 1808-1809, DE SIR GEORGE SCOVELL

Sir George Scovell es conocido sobre todo por sus actividades al descifrar el ôGrand Chiffreö utilizado por los franceses durante la Guerra de la Independencia. Antes, sin embargo, participo´ en la retirada a La Corun~a y en la batalla del 16 de enero de 1809;fue el encargado de organizar el embarque de las tropas en la noche posterior a la batalla. Su diario ha permanecido ine´dito durante ma´s de 200 an~os y ahora ve la luz por primera vez, ofrecie´ndonos una nueva visio´n de los acontecimientos que tuvieron lugar en 1808 y 1809. Sir George Scovell is best known for his activities decoding the Grand Chiffre used by the French during the Peninsular War. Before this, however, he took part in the retreat to Corunna and the battle on 16 January 1809;he was in charge of organising the embarkation of the troops on the night after the battle. His diary has lain unpublished for over 200 years now and now sees the light of the day for the first time, giving us a fresh view of the events that took place in 1808 and 1809.
